Celcom clinches RoC honour at the 5th Malaysia 1000 Award

KUCHING : Moving into this year's third quarter, Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) has once again emerged triumphant, clinching the much coveted prestigious 'Return on Capital Employed Award 2011' at the fifth Malaysia 1000 Award.
The award was presented by former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the award ceremony held at the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel recently.
This would be the second time in two years that Celcom had won the prestigious recognition at the Malaysia 1000 Award, the last time being the 'Industry Excellence Award' in 2009.
"We are honoured to be bestowed with this recognition by the people behind Malaysia 1000 Award, in the form of such a prestigious award. Being acknowledged the Return on Capital Employed Award lends a greater meaning to our journey and at the same time, keeps us motivated to pursue higher level of excellence in our business.
"This award is a result of continuous effort to carefully invest and divest smartly based on financial returns, sweat the existing assets and optimise our working capital. Recording an unprecedented 20th consecutive quarter of growth in all key indicators of our business in the second quarter of 2011 certainly proves that this success is attributed to the commitment of each and every employee in Celcom," said Celcom's chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly in his response to receiving the award.
The selection of the awards was determined by an independent panel judges who made up of financial and industry analysts, chaired by chairman of ISIS Malaysia, Tan Sri Mohd Jawhar Hassan, along with his counterpart in Bernama Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, and former chief executive officer of Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group, Datuk Abdul Wahab Jaafar Sidek, as panel members.
The prestigious award would add to various other awards won by Celcom thus far, including 'Best Business Enabler Award' by TATA Consultancy Services 2011, 'Service Provider of the Year Award' at the Frost and Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards 2011, 'Ijarah Deal of the Year Award' at the Islamic Finance News Awards 2010', 'Mergers and Acquisition Deal of the Year Award' at the International Finance News Awards 2010, and the 'Best Wireless Broadband Award' at the 11th PC.Com Awards.
